Traveler
From MITNA
A traveler is a point of attachment for a sheet that can move athwartship (from side to side).
Larger sailboats, such as X Dimension, usually have a traveler for the mainsheet that includes a block mounted on a rail that can be moved to port or to starboard. This allows the angle of the boom to be adjusted without changing the tension on the mainsheet, which would affect the twist of the sail.
Smaller boats, such as a Tech Dinghy, may have a line across the stern of the boat that allows a block to automatically move from one side of the boat to the other with the boat tacks or jibes.
