Talk:Mashnee task list
From MITNA
Out-of-water observations:
- Topsides paint acceptable: has some minor scratches and dings forward; more problematic, small areas blistering and peeling around stern
- Bottom paint in good condition, except for a few small patches on top and bottom of rudder where we are down to bare wood
- Varnish in good condition, except for the bowsprit, where there are several cracks through to the wood, showing water discoloration, and the cockpit coamings, which are yellowed and show some expected wear, though no cracks or flaking
- Caulking: good, except one large butt seam by starboard forward sensor where putty starting to separate
- Propeller has substantial marine growth, needs full cleaning
Inboard observations:
- Mast step collects water; check for rot (inspected when dry on 10-14-23, appeared to be fine)
- Chainplates are deep green and appear to be corroding, especially those in contact with the stainless steel diagonal supports. Need informed inspection
- May be some water intrusion where the chain plates pass through the deck
- Mild mildew growth throughout interior
- Blackwater tank needs pumpout
- Engine needs winterization: oil change; impeller replacement? filter replacements? fuel tank prep?
Mast inspection
- Wood spacer behind the forestay tang is showing water intrusion behind loose varnish
- Starboard forward chafe plate at the mast top is standing proud, needs to be re-bedded and tightened
- Varnish gone under spinnaker halyard block and jib halyard block
- Small poke holes showing water intrusion under the port middle shroud tang
- Small patches of missing varnish across length of mast, some showing darkening; generally needs re-varnishing
- Top of jib track on forestay needs a cap or other finishing element
- NMEA cable is very poorly spliced at bottom of mast
- Forward end of boom is being chewed up by gooseneck--shorten or protect?
- Lower spreaders have some worn spots, and could be re-varnished
