If a task needs additional explanation, please make a page for that task and post updates. When a task is completed, move it to the 'Completed Tasks' section, and include the date it was completed.

Please use the discussion page to discuss the prioritization and content of any of these tasks.

Winter 2022 Work

  • Replace engine oil line that has nicks in it and a slow leak
  • System for mounting radar and getting data to display
  • Buntlines for main sail reefing (these are the lines that pass through the grommets in the sail)
  • Repair hinges on lazarette hatch

Sails

  • 140. Need one batten.
  • Big Red- Repair tear near clew
  • Code Zero- longer discussion here re: new cable system or new sail
  • Two little covers for furler line port.
  • New #3 jib?

Rigging

  • Replace + test port spreader light
  • Second spinnaker halyard done properly
  • Possible jib sheet replacement
  • Cunningham purchase system to easily be soft shackled on when needed
  • Furler line led aft to cockpit- Add tail when needed? Block attachment point? More lines in the cockpit is not good except for shorthanded deliveries. Possible solution is to add an extension.
  • Winches broken down and greased

Miscellaneous

  • We need a new canvas boot for the mast-deck connection
  • We need a new (3rd) cowl vent, one went missing at the start of the season
  • High water bilge alarm should be rewired to also pump; right now if the lower switch fails the high water alarm will go off but the pump won’t run
  • (reposting) All the hatch hinges need to be strengthened and repaired. We had water intrusion and loss of almost all of them this year (I think it was time catching up to them?)
  • The forward hatch teeth (the part attached to the hull that the latch goes in) needs to be re-attached
  • The whole inside of the hull needs to be gone over, especially in the cockpit lockers. There was significant mold/mildew buildup
  • Purchase more sail ties that are extra-long

Centerboard

  • Plan is to pull the board right away when hauled.
  • Grind off head until it swings easily through wood on top of the lead keel while swelled up. Remove board again and glass up properly and install downhaul line up through the tube to the cabin top as well.

Radar and electronics

  • More permanent/waterproof template for radar base
  • Get rid of gremlins in the wireless displays (voltage boost?)
  • Get touchscreen physical buttons properly working
  • New Raymarine radar?

Safety

  • Some safety provisions for short-handed and/or night time sailing?
  • SOP + pictures of jackline setup
  • Encourage all to take a Safety at Sea seminar this winter. Maybe we get MIT Sailing to sponsor one like Roger Williams does? There may be one at umass this spring for the halifax and marion race. It is not listed now. I’d be up for taking one, if there’s space at UMass, great, otherwise we might have enough interest at MIT to do it.

Mechanical

  • Polish fuel, once in Spring, once again in mid-summer. Extra racor filters and a video of changing and seating washers and gaskets properly?
  • Purge and bleach out water systems yes
  • Replace low-pressure engine oil line near on-engine fuel filter that has a nick and slow oil leak. It is getting worse. (+ reattach to prevent chafe; check other lines for potential chafe).
  • Deck fill o-rings need replacing, especially for the diesel tank

Next summer

  • Training sessions
  • Skipper dry run for jacklines + MOB

Completed Tasks

  • Repaired forward hatch hinges
