Captain Training Cruises

A captain training cruise is an opportunity for one or more candidates to practice skills. On a training cruise, a bluewater captain is responsible for the trip, but candidates do all the work, taking turns as skipper and crew.

The focus of a training cruise depends on the needs of the candidate(s). A trip might include repeated docking maneuvers or approaches to moorings. Another trip might focus on setting and pulling the anchor. Another trip might focus on setting, triming, and dousing the sails. The intent is to provide experience to the candidate(s) and opportunities to learn about the candidate(s) for the captain.
