Nevermore Depart Checklist

This is the checklist of thing to do before getting underway.
- unlock cabin, starboard lazarette, and stern lazarette. stow locks in top drawer of nav station.
- remove companionway boards. stow in cabin.
- make log entry. include at least the following:
- date and time
- name of each person on board
- engine hours at start
- fuel gauge reading (the one under quarter berth above nav station seat)
- holding tank level
- check log entries of recent trips for equipment problems, supplies needed, etc
- remove guppy. stow in bucket in aft lazarette.
- check bilge for water; set nav-station panel "BILGE" DOWN to pump water out
- set lower battery switch to "1" (for the starting battery, battery #3)
- set nav-station panel 'MAIN' breaker to 'on'
- open head valves (there are 2)
- fly ensign from stern
- fly one of
- MIT burgie from starboard spreader, or
- radar reflector from starboard spreader
- switch instruments ON
- release steering wheel brake
- set centerboard (usually to half-way)
- deploy cockpit winch-handles (1 in pocket, optionally 1 in mainsheet winch)
- check that engine-kill pull-knob is pushed down
- -
- after starting engine (about 15 minutes)
- set upper battery switch to "1" or "2" (for house battery #1 or #2))
- and immediately set lower battery switch OFF (the starting battery #3)
- prepare to sail (while on mooring, anchor, or underway motoring)
- (these steps are listed mainly so that large crews can work simultaneously)
- remove sailcover and compass cover
- release steering wheel brake
- ?? anything required about topping lift ??
- connect main halyard to main, take out slack, put winch-handle in dorade
- (left to do when go to sail: remove sail ties, raise main, optionally reef, unfurl jib)
QUESTION: Do we check engine oil anymore? Either e.g. (a) each sail, or (b) 1st sail of the week?
QUESTION: Do we check battery water level? maybe e.g. (a) 1st sail of week, or (b) 1st sail of month? [NOTE that Aleida had sealed batteries; N'more doesn't.]
