Winterizing

Here are tasks that need to be done to winterize the boat:

Before the Haul Date
- Fill Fuel Tank and Add Stabilizer (DONE Ted 10/21/2007)
- Pump Out Head (DONE Ted 10/20/2007)
Before the Trip to Quincy
The mast will be pulled and the boat will be hauled at 2pm on Friday, Oct. 26 at Continental Marine in Quincy. The following tasks need to be completed before the trip to Quincy. [discuss ]
- Remove mainsail, including furling lines. (DONE Ted/Thom 25Oct)
- TODO LATER: remove battens, furl neatly
- TODO LATER: get mainsail washed (and any maintenance?)
- Remove boom. (DONE Ted/Thom 25Oct)
- Remove genoa. (DONE Ted/Thom 25Oct)
- TODO LATER: furl neatly, find a sailbag)
- Check turnbuckles on shrouds & stays for corrosion. (DONE tspettel & ksovie 10/21/2007) (i.e. check that not seized)
- Disconnect electrical connections at base of mast. (DONE Ted 25Oct)
- Devise a system for raising the centerboard after the mast has been pulled (DONE 25Oct Ted/Thom) (2 methods)
Immediately Before Hauling
Upon arrival at the boatyard, the following tasks need to be done before 2pm.
- Detach shrouds and stays from deck (DONE 26Oct Thom, yardworkers)
- Remove boot from mast step
== On the hard at Quincy - before continuing winterizing work
- Bring (borrow/buy):
- ladder/chain/lock
- electrical extension cord (c.100-foot)
- water hose (c.100-foot)
Before It Freezes
- Change Engine Oil and Filter (sporter will do this after the haulout)
- Change Transmission Fluid
- Drain coolant (seawater and antifreeze)
- Fog Cylinders
- Drain Freshwater tanks
- Add non-toxic antifreeze to freshwater system.
- Add non-toxic antifreeze to head/holding tank [discuss ]
- Add antifreeze to salt-water system/exhaust pot (bio-friendly)
- Top up batteries' charges
- -
- Bring up (from Conn.) and Install winter cover and its frame
