Cushions
on 22jul09, mwall and tyoung removed the foam from all cushion covers and did an inventory of cushions.
there are 18 interior cushions and 4 exterior cushions. here is a summary of the interior cushions:
quantity dimensions (inches)
6 2x24x12 (back rests)
2 4x24x19
1 4x82x32 (left vberth)
1 4x82x32 (right vberth)
1 4x24x21 (vberth wedge)
1 4x42x21 (main cabin back rest)
1 4x15x18 (nav backrest)
1 4x72x20 (port berth side)
1 4x38x20 (port berth aft)
1 4x74x32 (nav berth)
1 4x74x28 (stbd upper berth)
1 4x72x23 (stbd lower berth)
these are outer dimensions - many cushions are not simple rectangles.
there are 4 exterior cushions.
we have the fabric for the new interior cushions. we do not have the fabric for new exterior cushions. we have no new zippers.
everything is at the pavilion right now. the foam has been removed from the covers and is stacked at the end of the 2nd west bay. the fabric and old covers are on the top shelf of the 2nd west bay.
the plan is to take the old covers and roll of fabric to the upholsterer - s/he should be able to fabricate new covers from those. i will order new foam, have it delivered to the pavilion, then we'll cut the new foam (using the old blocks as templates) then insert them into the new covers.
will the upholsterer be able to procure fabric, piping, and zippers for the exterior cushions?
will the upholsterer be able to procure zippers for the interior cushions? please ensure that the new zippers are high quality. the old zippers seized, corroded, and broke.
- we do not want piping on the interior cushions
- we will need hook-and-loop (e.g. velcro, but more durable) strips sewn to some of the interior cushions (the back rests). this should be done after we fit everything back in the boat.
- the geometry of the old cushions really matters - many of them have angled sides are non-rectangular shapes. if we do not match the old shapes precisely, the new cushions will not fit.
- the old cushions had one material for the bottom, and a plaid material for the top. the current plan is to use a single material for both tops and bottoms.
- i do not know how much new fabric is on the roll. it is 4 feed wide.
