This is the checklist of things to do before getting underway.
- Unlock cabin, starboard lazarette, and stern lazarette. Stow locks in top drawer of nav station.
- Remove companionway boards. Stow in cabin.
- Make log entry. Include at least the following:
- date and time
- name of each person on board
- engine hours
- Remove guppy. Stow guppy in bucket in stern lazarette.
- Set lower battery switch to "1" (pointer to 9 o'clock position)
- Turn on the following breakers on the nav station:
- Main
- Navig Instr
- Radio
- If any gasoline is stowed aboard, run blower for 5 minutes
- Check bilge water level.
- Check engine oil and coolant levels.
- Check recent log entries.
- Check head thru-hull valves:
- white valve must be closed while within 3 miles of shore
- open yellow valve if head will be used
- Check holding tank level (via port closet in V-berth).
- Remove binnacle compass cover. Stow cover in top drawer of nav station.
- Give basic safety lecture for new sailors:
- life jackets
- fire extinguishers
- man overboard procedures
- VHF radio operation
- use of head
- avoiding the boom
